The Role
We are seeking to establish a pool of Technical Support Officers – Theatre for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part‐time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. As a Technical Support Officer – Theatre you will prepare the classroom, studio/theatre and workshop to enable teachers to instruct students. You will maintain appropriate documentation for all equipment, machinery and materials in accordance with occupational safety and health requirements.
Theatre
* Work collaboratively with the production team to assist in the operation of school and community events including assemblies, performances, exhibitions, screenings and promotional events.
* Support the college in productions and associated events by working closely with college staff and the Theatre Manager.
* Assist in the day‐to‐day running of the stage management department and provide practical, hands‐on support to staff and students.
* Manage props, including sourcing and/or making them, while staying within production budgets.
* Possess experience in calling shows, floor management, set dressing and the safe handling of stage equipment.
* Support teachers, students and staff in maintaining technical equipment and resources in accordance with occupational safety and health practices.
Costume
* Work closely with college staff and the theatre manager to conceptualise, design and construct costumes for college productions.
* Assist in maintaining the college's costume department and provide practical, hands‐on support to staff and students.
* Style wigs, shoes, accessories and other wearable items.
* Undertake hand sewing and operate both domestic and industrial sewing machines.
* Possess experience in dyeing, fitting, pattern cutting and creating theatrical effects.
Qualifications & Experience
* Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of appointment.
* Valid Working With Children Check.
* Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the operation of technical/industrial equipment within an Arts workshop or similar environment.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and its coverage in industrial environments.
* Good communication skills (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels.
* Effective time‐management, planning and organisational skills.
