. This 3-year fixed-term, full-time position is part of the Australian Research Council–funded Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology (QUBIC), led by Professor Irina Kabakova.
About the Role
As a key member of the QUBIC research team, you will help develop quantum spectroscopy/microscopy for biomedical and environmental sensing. Your work will involve entangled-photon methods to access mid-IR contrast with near-IR readout, aiming to reveal emergent phenomena in cell biology. You will collaborate with researchers from the University of Queensland, University of Melbourne, University of Wollongong, Flinders University, and international partners.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and automate advanced microscopy systems.
Conduct original research and produce timely, high-quality outputs.
Guide experimental design, seek external research funding, and supervise students.
Engage in cross-faculty dialogue and collaborate with independent and interdisciplinary teams.
Apply quantum optics and imaging/sensing methods to biomedical and environmental challenges.
Selection Criteria
Doctoral qualifications in optics engineering, quantum optics, quantum photonics, spectroscopy, or microscopy.
Comprehensive knowledge and skills in quantum optics and/or quantum imaging/sensing.
Demonstrated experience in constructing, automating, and operating microscopy systems.
Strong record of original research with high-quality outputs.
Ability to contribute to the research group through guidance on experimental design, external funding, supervision, and cross-faculty collaboration.
Benefits
Base Salary Range
: $94,152 – $114,672 (Level A) / $125,240 – $148,229 (Level B) + 17% superannuation.
