Overview
Raytheon Australia is the trusted capability partner of the Australian Defence Force, delivering innovative projects in the country. We are seeking a Safety Engineer to conduct engineering activities across Electronic Warfare (EW), Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD), Counter-Uncrewed Air System (C-UAS) and Communications Systems projects. This role sits within our Rapid Capability Delivery organisation, where engineering teams work at pace to design, integrate, trial, and deliver capability in response to evolving operational needs. You will apply safety engineering expertise within multidisciplinary teams to support design maturation from concept through to verification and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead system safety activities, serving as the primary subject matter expert and liaison with the Commonwealth of Australia on safety-related matters.
* Manage and maintain comprehensive hazard logs and risk control plans, ensuring alignment with Defence safety standards and regulatory requirements.
* Conduct safety assessments, providing critical analysis of potential impacts on operational safety.
* Represent the program at high-level safety working groups and executive meetings, presenting technical findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
* Develop and implement safety management strategies that ensure compliance with contractual requirements while maintaining operational effectiveness.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
* Requires a System Safety or risk assessment qualification(s).
* Desirable to have Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and/or Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) qualification(s).
* Knowledge of Electrical/Electronic/Systems Engineering.
* Experience in hazard identification and analysis tasks, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Health Hazard Analysis, Operation Support, Hazard Analysis, Sub System Hazard Analysis, and System Hazard Analysis.
* Ability to work collaboratively with others to solve complex problems.
* Excellent written and oral communications skills.
* Experience in a Defence related industry is desirable.
* Eligibility to obtain and maintain Australian Government (Defence) Security Clearance up to Negative Vetting Level 1. Eligibility can be found at https://www.agsva.gov.au/applicants/eligibility-suitability
