The role of a Senior Biomedical Scientist is a pivotal one within our organization. They play a key part in leading a team to deliver a medical laboratory service that achieves efficient patient care and resource management.
Key responsibilities include managing and deploying staff, providing first-line approval for annual leave and managing staff sickness, and giving cover for other section leaders when needed.
Additionally, the Senior Biomedical Scientist is responsible for ensuring high standards of technical and scientific performance and efficiency, initiating improvements and changes in working practice as required.
They are also expected to maintain good communication within the section and with other laboratory areas, act as the first point of contact for staff performance and competency issues, and support recruitment, selection and induction of staff.
Other key aspects of the job include performing appraisal/personal development reviews, maintaining skills and knowledge of Health and Safety/Training, stock ordering, rota planning, quality and technical scientific knowledge.
Teaching and developing staff, maintaining high standards and up-to-date specialist knowledge, and participating in laboratory clinical governance management meetings are also critical components of this role.
