Research Scientist - Ocean Modeller
We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist - Ocean Modeller to join our team. As a key member of our research group, you will play a crucial role in developing and applying numerical models to predict the movement, severity, and duration of harmful algal bloom events.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to strengthening South Australia's capability to anticipate and mitigate the impacts of harmful algal blooms on marine ecosystems, fisheries, and aquaculture, and coastal communities.
The position requires advanced expertise in physical, chemical, and biological oceanography, with a strong focus on process-based oceanographic modelling. You will work closely with our team to build hindcast and operational forecasting tools that support Algal Bloom research and early warning systems, and guide management and industry responses.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts in the field and contribute to whole-of-agency working groups developing policy responses to significant and emerging issues.
The successful candidate will possess a PhD in physical, biological, or biogeochemical oceanography or a related discipline, with a strong emphasis on process-based oceanographic modelling. You will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check prior to being made an offer of employment.
