What's the role?
We're looking for a Motoring Journalist who loves cars, news and can turn that passion into compelling digital and print storytelling. You'll report, produce, and present engaging motoring content across web, social and video, helping grow audience reach and engagement for News Corp Australia's Free News and Lifestyle pillar.
Key Responsibilities
* Report, write and publish clear, accurate and engaging motoring stories, reviews, comparisons and explainers for digital audiences.
* Produce and present on‐camera video content (short‐form and mid‐form) including road tests, walkarounds, comparisons, ownership, hard news and buying guides.
* Build digital content filed by editorial contributors.
* Shoot and edit videos to a publishable standard, including B‐roll, on‐camera pieces, voice‐overs, captions, thumbnails and metadata.
* Plan and deliver social‐first content tailored to platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, including live and vertical formats.
* Use analytics to inform commissioning and optimisation.
* Attend vehicle launches and industry events; file fast, accurate coverage and produce timely social/video updates.
* Translate complex information (specs, safety ratings, pricing, EV tech, running costs) into audience‐friendly formats, including data‐to‐video explainers.
* Collaborate with editors, video producers and digital teams to deliver cross‐platform packages and execute content calendars.
* Maintain the highest editorial standards, including legal and safety awareness when test‐driving and filming.
* Build and maintain industry contacts (OEMs, dealers, PRs, experts) to secure access, vehicles and exclusives.
Who are you?
* 3+ years' experience in media, motoring or a newsroom environment.
* Proven digital reporting and writing skills with strong news sense and clean copy under deadline.
* Confident on‐camera presenter with the ability to script, ad‐lib and interview.
* Platform fluency: YouTube Studio, social video workflows (vertical/shorts), CMS publishing, SEO fundamentals and metadata best practice.
* Data‐literate: comfortable turning data sets and technical specs into accessible articles, charts and video explainers.
* Strong stakeholder and relationship skills; comfortable liaising with brands while upholding editorial independence.
* A full driver's licence and confidence driving a broad range of vehicles.
* Willingness to travel and work occasional weekends or evenings for events and launches.
Desirable Skills
* Experience covering EVs, charging infrastructure.
* Video production skills: shooting, basic lighting, green screen and audio.
* Familiarity with audience tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Chartbeat) and A/B testing.
Benefits
* Access to publications and products from across the News Corp family.
* Exclusive offers across a range of products and services.
* Health & wellbeing support, including on‐site gym at certain offices.
* Time off: parental leave, birthday leave, volunteer leave, career break and compassionate leave.
* Financial wellbeing support.
* Development opportunities, including leadership programs.
* Volunteer opportunities and company‐organised charity drives.
* Employee‐resource groups and accessibility to multi‐faith quiet rooms & parents' rooms.
