Defect Removal Specialist
Mission: to identify and eliminate surface and subsurface defects from castings.
Responsibilities:
1. Grinding Operations: Conduct thorough examinations of x-ray/inspection records, sketches, and blueprints to determine optimal grinding requirements. Utilize rotary files, burrs, abrasives, or belts to carefully remove surface and blind cavity defects from castings, preparing them for subsequent repair work.
2. Surface Finish Enhancement: Employ various techniques to blend and rework repaired areas to precise specifications; may involve the use of handheld sandblasters.
3. Dimensional Inspection: Verify dimensional compliance using micrometers, calipers, ultrasonic testing, and similar inspection devices. Perform fluorescent penetrant inspection tests on parts to confirm the removal of surface and subsurface defects, applying penetrant solutions, allowing them to dry, washing off excess, and inspecting for residual defects.
4. Training and Development: Provide guidance and training to junior-level technicians as assigned, potentially requiring completion of hazardous waste management courses.
