Visitor Engagement Officer – Werribee Open Range Zoo
Zoos Victoria operates four landmark zoos – Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo, Kyabram Fauna Park and Werribee Open Range Zoo. Every person in the organisation plays a vital role in working toward wildlife conservation. Visitor Engagement Officers (VEO) report to the Visitor Engagement Coordinator and are part of the wider Visitor Experience team at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
As a casual VEO, you will play a vital role in creating memorable and meaningful experiences for visitors. You will work across weekdays, weekends, school holidays, public holidays and special events, connecting people with wildlife, conservation and the Zoos Victoria mission through a diverse range of engagement opportunities.
The role involves delivering engaging animal talks, facilitating selected commercial products, conducting spontaneous visitor interactions throughout the zoo, and supporting activations and special events. VEOs are skilled storytellers and communicators who can adapt their approach to a wide range of audiences, creating positive and impactful moments that foster curiosity, empathy and action for wildlife.
Using Zoos Victoria's "Share Our Care" and "Connect-Understand-Act" community engagement frameworks in support of ZV Community Conservation Campaigns, you will help visitors build meaningful connections with animals and nature, deepen their understanding of conservation issues, and inspire positive actions that contribute to wildlife conservation outcomes.
Success in this role requires confidence in public speaking, strong interpersonal skills, a passion for conservation, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. VEOs regularly work alongside Life Sciences, volunteers, commercial operations and other departments to ensure exceptional visitor experiences are delivered across the zoo.
