The Bureau relies on RF spectrum allocations to support extensive active and passive RF meteorological observations without interference or degradation.
The role includes protecting the Bureau\'s services through analysis of wind farm developments on the Bureau\'s observing system assets (including weather radars), supporting RF analysis for acquisition and maintenance of spectrum licenses, and determining non-ionising radiation safety zones for Bureau RF systems.This is a key position within the Operational Technology and Engineering (OTE) team, part of the Observing Systems and Operations (OSO) Program.
The role provides specialist advice and will lead the development and implementation of processes to ensure systematic delivery of quality outcomes for observing infrastructure architecture and equipment.Operational Technology and Engineering is a diverse team responsible for engineering and technological solutions across radar, rainfall stations, drifting buoys, dedicated observations, satellites, and maritime sensors to meet business needs.ResponsibilitiesAnalysis for the impacts of wind farms on the performance of Bureau sensorsRF analysis for the acquisition and maintenance of spectrum licencesRF analysis to determine non-ionising radiation safety zones for occupational and public safety for Bureau RF systemsQualificationsThe successful applicant will have extensive technical experience in RF propagation, interference and path loss calculations, reflectivity, spectrum allocation management, software modelling and physical measurements.
