Job Summary
Senior Grid Connection Engineer reporting to the Senior Manager – Grid & Electrical Engineering. Responsible for ensuring projects achieve technically robust, commercially sound, and future‐ready connections to the National Electricity Market (NEM). Works across the project lifecycle: feasibility, design, connection approval, testing, and commissioning for utility‐scale renewable and storage projects.
Responsibilities
* Grid Connection Strategy & Approvals
o Lead development of grid connection strategies, evaluating viable connection options and system strength considerations.
o Manage and review PSSE/PSCAD models and oversee consultant grid studies.
o Lead GPS preparation, negotiation and approvals with AEMO, TNSP/DNSPs.
o Coordinate technical inputs to connection applications, registration processes and R2 testing.
* Engineering & Technical Delivery
o Provide design inputs for substation layouts, electrical reticulation, collector systems and BoP interface requirements.
o Review grid and electrical specifications in EPC/OEM contracts and support commercial negotiations.
o Identify grid opportunities within the NEM and inform project design, energy yield and cost optimisation.
* Operational & Compliance Support
o Lead GPS compliance monitoring for operational assets and guide model updates when required.
o Provide specialist support for commissioning, hold‐point testing and operational grid performance investigations.
* Stakeholder Engagement
o Act as a key technical interface with AEMO, network service providers, OEMs and specialist consultants.
o Work closely with internal Development, Delivery, Operations and Commercial teams to ensure alignment across project stages.
Qualifications
* Technical Experience
o Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
o Extensive experience in grid connection engineering within the NEM (ideally 5+ years).
o Proficiency in PSSE, PSCAD and/or PowerFactory.
o Strong grasp of NER, AEMO processes and TNSP/DNSP connection frameworks.
o Experience across wind, solar or BESS projects highly regarded.
