Lead Cost Engineer
Job Summary: As Lead Cost Engineer, you will provide input, guidance and recommendations for cost engineering requirements relative to staffing and project control, preparing detailed staffing plans for cost engineering activities. You will review proposal provisions related to cost engineering and material control, develop supporting data for contract negotiations, and participate in establishing pricing structures to be applied to quantities for estimates. In this role, you will be responsible for estimating, analysis, and control activities for projects with significant non‐routine requirements or for cost activities that require a high degree of technical skill. You will prepare cost studies, review cost trends, and develop and implement project requirements for cost control. Your detailed analysis will provide innovative solutions to cost engineering challenges.
Bechtel Mining and Metals is seeking an experienced Lead Cost Engineer with proven capabilities to join our project team in Brisbane.
This position is designated as part‐time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in‐person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in‐person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities
* Responsible for cost estimating, analysis, and control activities for projects with significant non‐routine requirements or for cost activities which require a high degree of technical skill.
* Analyze to provide innovative solutions to cost engineering challenges.
* Develop and implement project requirements for cost control in accordance with established Bechtel and client contractual requirements, objectives, and procedures.
* Ensure work is completed as scheduled, supporting project organizational and administrative activities.
* Prepare cost studies using historical data, statistical analysis, and cost and quantity comparisons.
* Review identified cost trends for cost effectiveness and suggest alternatives when appropriate.
* Maintain open communications with other organizations to support cost engineering analysis and control activities.
Education and Experience Requirements
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10‐13 years of relevant experience or 14‐17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Experience in directing project cost engineering, including cost control and analysis, cost reporting, incurred cost assessment, and conducting meetings.
* Experience in establishing criteria for Project Controls cost activities and in cost and commitment, incurred cost analysis, and management.
* Skilled in oral and written communication, with demonstrated ability to present Project Controls information to management/client.
* Advanced level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start‐up work processes, as performed by Bechtel.
* Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
