The Role
To assist the Local Court Magistrate with the diversion of defendants who have or are suspected of having a mental illness, mental disorder or a cognitive impairment from the Criminal Justice System (Court and Correctional Centres) into the community.
Essential criteria
Must hold a relevant post graduate qualification in mental health.
Must hold a current NSW Drivers Licence.
Clinical Qualifications and Experience
CNC2: Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia; current full registration with AHPRA; five years full time equivalent post registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
Occupational Therapist Lvl 4: Qualifications recognised for registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; general registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; five years post registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
Social Worker Lvl 4: Minimum Bachelor's degree in social work with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or equivalent; five years post registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
Clinical Psychologist: Four year degree in psychology (including a four-year pathway or equivalent); hold general registration with AHPRA; five years post registration clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health setting.
Our Service and Team
Statewide Community and Court Liaison Service (SCCLS) delivered by Justice Health NSW offers mental health support in Local Courts across NSW.
This service conducts thorough evaluations and, when suitable, offers suggestions to magistrates for diverting individuals away from custody and into suitable treatment options.
The SCCLS is expanding to include 58 local courts in rural, regional, and metro locations.
