Key Responsibilities:
The Metal Fabricator primarily reworks and redesigns wheel rims and centres to meet specific design requirements by using operating tools to prepare parts, machining components for assembly, and aligning pieces using callipers, rulers, and clamps. Metal Fabricators weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead). They must test and inspect welded surfaces and structures for defects and support the broader STW team across various functions.
* Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
* Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
* Set up components for welding and joining according to specifications.
* Operate tools to prepare the parts for assembly.
* Machine parts and components to be used to assemble final products.
* Align components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces.
* Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
* Test and inspect welded surfaces, structures, and components to discover flaws.
* Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
Other duties related to skill and capabilities as required.
Skills & Experience
* Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers, etc.).
* Experience in using large machinery such as lathes and mills.
* Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
* Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face shield, gloves, etc.).
* Proven deftness and attention to detail.
* Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
* Successful completion of VET program or apprenticeship is highly desirable.
* Completion of year 10 WACE or equivalent.
* Professional certification will be a plus.
* Experience using various welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, etc.).
Skills
* Ability to work under limited supervision individually or in a team environment.
* Autonomous and solves work planning problems.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
