The Opportunity

Council is seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our Trades Services team in a permanent full-time position.

This role is responsible for the servicing, maintenance and repair of Council's fleet, plant and equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations that support essential community services.

Working across a varied fleet, you will undertake workshop and field-based repairs, diagnostics, preventative maintenance and inspections on both heavy and light vehicles, plant and equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified mechanic who enjoys diverse work, problem-solving and being part of a team that keeps critical operations moving.

In this role, you will
* Undertake servicing, maintenance and repairs on Council fleet, plant and equipment
* Diagnose and repair mechanical and hydraulic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
* Complete preventative maintenance, safety inspections and roadworthiness checks
* Maintain accurate service, repair and maintenance records
* Perform minor welding, fabrication and field breakdown repairs as required
* Maintain workshop cleanliness, safety standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
* Support apprentices and contribute positively to a collaborative and safety-focused team environment
What you'll bring
* Trade qualification in Heavy Vehicle / Plant Mechanics or similar
* MVRIA licence
* Minimum 4-5 years post trade experience
* Strong experience working on heavy vehicles and plant equipment
* Experience diagnosing faults using electronic diagnostic equipment
* Understanding of hydraulic systems and repairs
* Ability to work independently and prioritise workloads
* Sound understanding of WHS principles and safe work practices
* Current MR Drivers Licence
Desirable
* Motor Vehicle Inspector's Certificate
* Experience maintaining small plant and equipment
* Forklift licence
* Construction Induction (White Card)
What we offer

Salary: Commencing salary circa $65,918 p.a. plus superannuation. (dependent on skills and experience)

Location: This position will be based at our Taree Depot, 36 Arkwright Crescent, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
