Position overview

The Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre (BMTC) delivers the technical and professional training for the meteorological observations and forecasting roles unique to meteorological agencies. The Training Centre also manages the National Meteorological Library, the whole of enterprise Learning Management System (LMS), the training and qualification records within the Enterprise Business System (EBS) and funds the strategic capability development priorities for the enterprise.

The Online Learning Designer works as part of a team, reporting to the Instructional Design Lead, located at the Bureau's Training Facility in Broadmeadows and 700 Collins St Docklands (from 2027).

The Learning Designer will apply pedagogical and andragogical instructional design principles to develop contemporary online and facilitated learning solutions, either independently or with the assistance of Subject Matter Experts (SME), then implement these products on our Moodle based Learning Portal. Development of the online resources will include course authoring in Articulate Rise 360, Moodle integration, video production and graphic design tasks.

To ensure integration with the Bureau learning teams the Learning Designer will be a member of and contribute to the Bureau's e-Learning Community of Practice.

To be successful in this role, the occupant will need high-level instructional design and online learning skills, along with experience with the Moodle Learning Management System. The occupant will use well developed communication skills and a passion for working with people to deliver high quality online learning packages.

An industry accredited adult education or instructional/learning design qualification, equivalent to at least Certificate IV level, is an advantage or industry experience of 5+ years.

Role responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

1. Use learning design principles to design and develop engaging learner centered training using contemporary methods with an emphasis on a blended learning approach.
2. Engage with stakeholders (SME's) within BMTC and across the Bureau to develop scientifically accurate and engaging learning design content.
3. Assist Subject Matter Experts (SME's) in the design of learning products, production of learning resources and establishing the courseware on the Bureau's online Learning Portal.
4. Comply with all Bureau work, health and safety and environment policies and procedures, and take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
5. Ensure that plans, policies and practices concerning the various elements of the Bureau's Social Justice Strategy are applied.

Qualifications:

Tertiary qualifications from an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which is appropriate to the duties, or extensive work experience in learning design.

Merit pool

The selection process will establish a merit pool that may be used to fill similar positions within 18 months.
