About The Role

The primary role of the Environmental Specialist is to provide specialist technical advice and support to the site and to ensure compliance with environmental regulatory obligations, and achieve outcomes outlined in the Jacinth-Ambrosia Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR). The Environmental Specialist is responsible for achieving or exceeding stakeholder expectations on environmental management onsite.

Core Responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with government regulations and legislation, company environmental policies and procedures and relevant regulations.
* Ensure the J-A Mine is operated to minimise environmental impact, particularly in the areas of radiation management, dust control, surface water, groundwater management, storage of chemicals, waste and recycling.
* Implement and manage environmental improvement projects onsite.
* Provide expert technical environmental advice to Operations at J-A.
* Serve as Radiation Safety Officer and manage radiation monitoring across J-A and Port Thevenard.
* Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of state and federal environmental legislation.
* Actively promote best‐practice environmental performance and proactivity amongst Iluka and contract personnel.
* Manage and investigate environmental incidents and ensure appropriate corrective actions are completed and closed out.
* Manage statutory reporting of environmental incidents that represent a breach of regulatory approvals and/or legislation.
About You
* Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science or equivalent.
* Specialist experience in environmental chemistry, soil science or radiation monitoring.
* Minimum of 10 years' experience in an Environmental Science career.
* Licensed Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or willing and capable of conducting additional training to achieve radiation licensing requirements.
* Capability to prepare and deliver environmental awareness and training to the Jacinth-Ambrosia workforce.
* Analytical and critical thinking skills.
* Advanced skills in ArcMap (ArcGIS) and Microsoft Suite.
* Current C Class Driver Licence (unrestricted).
* 4WD driving capability and experience to navigate remote or off-road locations safely.
* Proven written and verbal communication, influencing, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
* Previous experience in people management or supervising contractors.
* Additional qualifications or experience in Environmental Auditing, NPI and NGERS reporting or nationally recognised drone pilot qualifications will be considered advantageous.
