The Design Draftsperson plays a critical role in supporting the engineering, fabrication, and construction functions at Maritime Constructions. Working under the direction of the Senior Naval Architect (& workshop manager), the Design Draftsperson is responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings, 3D models, fabrication and assembly plans for marine infrastructure projects, including floating plant and vessels. This role requires advanced drafting skills, and the ability to interpret and develop complex engineering concepts into practical, buildable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage technical drawings and 3D models using CAD and drafting software.
Create detailed engineering drawings for steel structures, pontoons, barges, jetties, and other marine assets.
Ensure all drawings adhere to relevant marine construction standards, codes, and specifications.
Prepare assembly drawings, general arrangements, and workshop fabrication packs.
Provide material take-offs from drawings to support accurate estimating and procurement.
Liaise with the estimating team to review draft packages and resolve technical ambiguities.
Assist in the preparation of bill of materials and project-specific quantities.
Collaborate closely with the Senior Naval Architect to interpret design requirements.
Work with project engineers and site supervisors to ensure drawings are practical and buildable.
Perform quality checks on drafting deliverables for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
Maintain drawing registers and version control in line with MC's document management systems
Skills and Experience
Minimum 2+ years' drafting experience, in engineering drafting.
Extensive knowledge of marine and civil construction practices, with a focus on fabrication and floating plant.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Revit or equivalent 3D modelling tools).
Strong understanding of construction and fabrication methodologies.
Ability to interpret complex engineering and naval architectural drawings.
Strong communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Understanding of relevant Australian standards, codes, and maritime regulations.
Desirable
Able to assist the Survey team in the processing of data for 3D modelling
