Job Description

The Communication Specialist will deliver external and internal communication activities across CEI, under direction of the Knowledge Translation and Communication Manager, and in line with organisation strategy and an agreed workplan.

The Specialist will apply their Communication skills and experience in the creation of strategic written and visual content for CEI's key audiences across the government, non-profit, research, and philanthropic sectors. You will manage CEI's social media channels and communities (Linkedin, Bluesky, Youtube), manage and improve our communication assets (document templates, image bank, infographics), drive communication activity around events and recruitment, and manage internal communications across our global offices.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about social impact, and the potential for research evidence to improve outcomes for vulnerable people and communities. They will bring exceptional written and verbal communication skills, proven experience in developing and managing content and channels, along with demonstrated initiative, relationship-building, problem-solving and organisational skills.


Responsibilities

The Communication Specialist delivers and supports a global communication portfolio, under the direction of the Knowledge Translation and Communication Manager.

Specifically, the postholder will have the following responsibilities:


Strategic communications delivery

* Write compelling communication content (e.g., articles, policy briefs) for external audiences globally, highlighting CEI's work and impact across the world. Ensure complex concepts are made relevant and digestible for key audiences, to support translation of our research to key decision-makers.
* Spearhead CEI's visual communication and hone our visual identity. Develop visual, infographic, video/animation content for use in print and online, to support our communication / digital marketing, delivery of projects, and business development. Support the development of visual communication assets and skills across CEI's teams.
* Deliver social media strategy and content planning, and develop written and visual social media content. Maintain CEI's content calendar, working to identify meaningful engagement opportunities across our four key geographies and beyond. Manage and grow CEI's social media communities and apply best practice in building engagement and followership.
* Proactively identify events and related opportunities to raise CEI's profile internationally. Create communication plans and activity to maximise the profile of our participation and partnership in these events.
* Support communication activity around the high-profile global event CEI co-presents, the biennial Evidence and Implementation Summit, and its related international offshoots (in Singapore and the UK) in alternate years.
* Support CEI to attract exceptional people through driving recruitment communications, and creating and updating relevant collateral and documents, in collaboration with the People and Culture team. Ensure staff CVs and website profiles are kept updated and accurate to support external communication, particularly for business development.
* Support communication across all CEI platforms, and work as one team with colleagues globally to deliver our objectives. Where feasible and appropriate, bring communication insights to CEI projects, and support project teams with communication needs.


Internal communication delivery

* Manage and drive positive internal communication across CEI's global organisation, in collaboration with the People and Culture team.
* Support the development of regular communication to CEI's team about key work, changes and updates, in partnership with the executive and relevant colleagues.
* Where feasible and appropriate, support internal teams to align to a common house style and to enhance their communication capabilities.


Manage and improve communication assets

* Maintain, update and improve CEI's website content (Drupal CMS) and liaise with webmasters on regular updates and improvements.
* Maintain and develop CEI's Mailchimp platform, including developing templates and formats for our regular stakeholder newsletter and other communications.
* Manage and build CEI's image bank, document templates and other key visual and infographic assets.
* Manage brand assets, including CEI logos and style guide.
* Support the compilation of assets to support client and prospective client communication, including client logos, project vignettes, product descriptions, and business development materials.


Data management and reporting

* Manage email contact database (Mailchimp) and contribute to stakeholder data management (CRM) more broadly across the organisation.
* Compile and assess analytics and draft reports on communication activity and impact.


Health and safety requirements

* Act in a safe manner at all times, including complying with all safety instructions and training given at the workplace.
* Participate in, and contribute to, health and safety awareness and improvements.
* Comply with emergency evacuation procedures.
* Report all incidents, injuries and potential hazards in a timely manner.
* Be aware of, and consider, the risks associated with your everyday work and apply appropriate mitigation measures.


Role Requirements


Essential skills and experience

* Minimum of 2-3 years' work experience (post-degree) in a multi-faceted Communications role.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in communicating complex content for diverse audiences.
* Experience and skills in visual communication and/or developing infographic presentation of research data.
* Proven experience managing social media channels and developing written and visual social media content that drives growth.
* Demonstrated ability to form positive and effective working relationships across a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Demonstrated ability to work to a high standard within tight timelines, and to prioritise within a busy workload. Strong eye for detail.
* Demonstrated personal initiative, strong problem-solving and organisational orientation and skills.
* Willingness to expand your skills and knowledge, ability to incorporate learning and feedback into your work.
* Strong commitment to the for-purpose sector and values of CEI.
* Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, website CMS, social media platforms, EDM databases and software.


Desirable attributes

* Communication experience in a non-profit, social sector or research-focused organisation.
* Graphic design skills and experience will be highly regarded.


Qualifications/accreditations

* An undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Professional Writing or related disciplines.
* Postgraduate qualifications are also desirable.
