Overview
The VirtualKIDS department at Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is a statewide paediatric virtual health care program that uses technology to transform how children and families across New South Wales access and receive care. Over the past three years, VirtualKIDS has provided assessment and treatment to more than 50,000 children, improving access, equity and patient experience across the state.
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to improve access to specialist paediatric care and health outcomes for children aged 0 to 12 years experiencing mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing issues, and for their family members and carers, through specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment management. The paediatrician will provide expert clinical consultation and coordination to the multidisciplinary team and external providers, using an integrated, child‐centred and family‐focused approach that promotes advanced clinical practice and coordinated care.
Key Responsibilities
This role will be delivered in collaboration with the Head to Health Hub, supporting a connected model of care across virtual and community settings to ensure children and families can access timely specialist paediatric input as part of a multidisciplinary approach.
Qualifications and Experience
* Evidence of registration with the Medical Board of Australia, Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent and subspecialty training and relevant qualification, experience and competency in Paediatrics
* Strong experience in providing clinical services to children with mild to moderate mental health and/or developmental concerns
* Understanding of current and emerging issues in assessment and management of child and family mental health, developmental and wellbeing issues in a community setting
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, displaying effective communication and interpersonal skills across relevant modes of communication including electronic systems
* Commitment to clinical capacity building, continuing education, research and quality improvement
* Ability to exercise professional knowledge and judgement in providing specialised care and support for children and families with mental health and wellbeing concerns
* Ability to work within a clinical governance structure and practice utilising relevant policies, protocols and legislative frameworks
* Hold a driver's licence valid in NSW and be prepared to travel as a requirement of the position
This position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Office of the Children's Guardian.
