What you'll do
As a Housing Inspection Officer, you'll deliver a comprehensive property inspection service across a diverse housing portfolio, supporting tenants to maintain safe, sustainable homes. This role combines hands-on property expertise with a strong customer focus. Through regular inspections, compliance checks and proactive engagement, you'll identify risks early, support tenant responsibilities and ensure housing standards are consistently met.
* Conduct indoor and outdoor property inspections, identifying maintenance needs, hazards and risks, maintaining accurate inspection records.
* Complete property condition inspections across portfolios, including annual inspection targets and cyclical programs.
* Undertake compliance testing, including smoke alarms, RCDs and other safety requirements.
* Identify and report tenancy concerns, including potential lease breaches and household wellbeing considerations
* Report repairs and liaise with internal teams to support timely maintenance
* Support a tenant-focused service by responding to enquiries, resolving issues and escalating where required
* Travel across metropolitan and regional portfolios as needed
Qualifications & Experience
To Thrive In This Role, You Will Have
* A Builders/Supervisors licence, building trade qualification, or equivalent demonstrated experience
* Proven experience in property inspections, maintenance, asset management or a similar role
* Strong reporting skills, with the ability to produce clear and accurate property condition reports and scopes of work
* Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and manage sensitive situations
* Strong time management, organisation and prioritisation skills
* Confidence using IT systems, databases and Microsoft Office
* Sound WHS knowledge and the ability to identify and respond to property risks
Desirable
* Experience in property management, community housing or tenancy services
* Testing and Tagging and RCD checking qualifications, or willingness to obtain
* Experience conducting residential electrical or safety compliance checks
* Ability to complete minor maintenance repairs or installations
* Experience working with diverse and vulnerable communities
* A collaborative, flexible approach and willingness to travel when required
