JOB DESCRIPTION
GHD's Ecological Sciences Group has an opportunity for a Senior Botanist to join our Flora team in Victoria. You will deliver a broad range of conservation, impact assessment, and monitoring projects, working with vegetation types that include grassland, mallee, wetland, forest and woodland communities, in partnership with clients, land managers and state government bodies.
You'll be encouraged to focus on areas and projects that you are truly passionate about, develop your specific interests over time, and collaborate with our ecology teams in other states and territories to explore new landscapes.
Location: Melbourne, Victoria.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Field-based botanical survey work, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, targeted threatened flora survey and Vegetation Quality Assessments using the Habitat Hectares method.
* Ecological impact assessments and offsetting for a range of projects from small-scale infrastructure impact assessments to assisting with major projects of state significance, e.g., technical documentation for Environment Effects Statements.
* Ecological monitoring, involving the design and implementation of monitoring programs, surveys for threatened species, running long‐term monitoring projects, assessing the benefits of environmental watering projects.
* Preparation of proposals and technical reports for public and private sector clients.
* Managing both ecology-focused and multi-disciplinary projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's Degree in Science with a Botany, Ecology or Environmental Science major.
* 8+ years of experience conducting vegetation surveys in south‐east Australia.
* Strong ability to develop and build upon client relationships from experience in a similar consulting role.
* Strong botanical identification skills, including experience using dissecting microscopes and identification keys.
* Experience undertaking Habitat Hectare assessments and VQA accreditation.
* Willingness to work flexibly and independently, particularly when undertaking flora surveys and traveling to remote locations.
* Understanding of national and state environmental legislation and policy (e.g. EPBC Act, FFG Act, Planning and Environment Act).
* A current full driver's license.
