What's the role?
We're looking for a technically strong and strategically minded Senior Manager to lead independent validations of enterprise models across Westpac Group. You'll be hands-on in assessing model design, methodology, implementation, and documentation - ensuring alignment with policy and regulatory standards. You'll also play a key role in shaping the future of model risk, including the growing use of AI in enterprise models. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across diverse risk classes and influence how model risk is managed at scale. This is a permanent fulltime role based in Sydney.
Responsibilities
Lead independent validation of enterprise-wide models across capital, liquidity, stress testing, and financial crime
Influence model risk governance and uplift practices across the Group
Work with senior stakeholders and coach junior team members in a high-impact risk function
What do I need?
Proven experience validating models in areas such as financial crime, liquidity, and stress testing
Strong programming skills (SAS, SQL, R or Python)
Ability to interpret regulatory standards and financial statements (including Pillar III reports)
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Leadership experience and ability to mentor junior team members
Strong analytical thinking and ability to challenge constructively
Interest in the business application of models and emerging technologies like AI
