Senior Financial Accountant | 4-5 Month Contract | Melbourne Inner Suburbs
We're partnering with a well-regarded organisation to find an experienced Senior Financial Accountant for a 4-5 month contract centred on year-end financial statements and audit preparation.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused assignment for someone who knows the statutory accounts and audit cycle inside out. You'll take ownership of producing the financial statements and work side by side with the Financial Controller and external auditors to land a clean, on-time sign-off. It's the kind of role where your work is measured by a clear outcome: accurate accounts, signed off by the board and auditors, by deadline.
You'll be coming into an established finance function, so there's structure and support around you, but the expectation is that you can run your part of the process independently, make sound technical judgement calls, and bring a calm, organised approach when the audit pressure builds.
What you'll be doing:
* Preparing one or more sets of financial statements, including comprehensive notes to the accounts
* Building and validating supporting schedules and reconciliations, including cash flow, property plant & equipment, and retained earnings
* Preparing audit work papers and pulling together everything the auditors need up front
* Responding to and resolving auditor and board queries quickly to keep the timeline on track
* Applying accounting standards and precedents to more complex or judgement-based items
* Logging process issues and improvement points to make future reporting cycles cleaner and faster
* Supporting the wider finance team with ad hoc tasks across the contract period
What you'll need:
* CA or CPA qualified
* Strong track record producing audited financial or statutory accounts, ideally end to end
* A genuine grasp of accounting standards and how they apply in practice
* Confidence liaising directly with external auditors and senior finance stakeholders
* Strong reconciliation and schedule-building skills, with sharp attention to detail
* Solid systems and Excel skills, with large ERP experience well regarded
* Availability to start at short notice and commit to the full contract term
