Baseball Coach - Middle School 26/27 SY Reports To

The principal and athletic director, who provideoverall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the school principals.

Job Summary

The Middle School Baseball Head Coach will lead, mentor, and develop the school's cheerleading squad, promoting school spirit, teamwork, and athleticism. This role requires a positive role model who can teach cheer routines, encourage sportsmanship, and ensure the safety and well-being of all team members.

Qualifications
* Experience in baseball as a player or coach, preferably at the middle school or youth level.
* Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to motivate, instruct, and inspire young student-athletes.
* Knowledge of baseball rules, fundamentals, safety standards, and age-appropriate skill development.
* Ability to commit time to practices, games, meetings, and related athletic events.
* Current background check clearance per school policy.
* CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
* Has thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Northampton County School Board and is responsible for implementation within the baseball program.
* Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
General Responsibilities
* Plan, organize, and conduct baseball practices focused on skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and sportsmanship.
* Teach age-appropriate baseball fundamentals, including throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, base running, pitching, and game strategy.
* Supervise student‐athletes during practices, games, travel, and school-sponsored athletic events.
* Promote positive team dynamics and foster a supportive, inclusive environment.
* Ensure all players follow school policies, athletic rules, safety guidelines, and codes of conduct.
* Communicate regularly with parents, school staff, and the athletic director regarding schedules, expectations, events, and team progress.
* Encourage sportsmanship, leadership, responsibility, and school pride among team members.
* Monitor student‐athletes' academic progress, conduct, and eligibility.
* Provide training rules and team expectations to all players.
* Initiate procedures concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
* Complete required paperwork for athletic injuries and submit forms to the athletic office within 24 hours.
* Maintain attendance records, equipment records, rosters, and other required documentation.
* Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and preparation for games, tournaments, and special events.
* Ensure proper care, inventory, storage, and return of all baseball equipment and uniforms.
* Inspect and secure athletic areas, locker rooms, equipment rooms, and facilities before and after practices and games.
* Instill respect for school property, equipment, teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators.
* Organize and attend preseason meetings with parents, players, and coaches.
* Promote participation in the baseball program while supporting students' overall athletic and academic development.
* Maintain positive public relations with parents, officials, volunteers, fans, school staff, and the community.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic director or principal.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
* Work may involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
* Ability to stand and move for extended periods during practices and games (often 1–2 hours or more).
* Capability to demonstrate cheerleading skills, including jumping, clapping, arm movements, and basic stunts.
* Ability to lift or support cheerleaders safely during spotting or stunt practice (up to 25–30 lbs).
* Good physical stamina and coordination to actively participate in drills and routines.
* Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, including bending, kneeling, or crouching to assist injured students.
* Manual dexterity to handle equipment, uniforms, and props as needed.
