Adelaide
Babcock Australia & New Zealand
Posted: 21 May
Offer description

* Lead an exciting new aviation infrastructure build from the ground up.
* Be part of a flagship project shaping future capability in the Torres Strait.
* Take ownership of a complex, high-visibility project with real autonomy.
About The Role

Babcock is seeking a unique project‐focused Project Manager that will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of new aviation infrastructure on Horn Island. This position sits within a supportive and highly trusted part of the business, reporting to the Head of Trade Controls, Security and Facilities for overall accountability, while working day‐to‐day with the Senior Project Manager in Facilities to drive outcomes and keep the project moving.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant end‐to‐end build, overseeing everything from early design and construction planning through to regulatory approvals, contractor management, physical security requirements, IT integration and on‐the‐ground coordination. You'll work closely with architects, engineers, contractors and internal teams to keep the project aligned, resolve issues quickly and ensure the facility meets operational, safety and environmental standards.

A key part of the role involves building strong relationships with local councils, regulatory bodies, Traditional Owners and community representatives. You'll help navigate approvals, environmental considerations and compliance requirements, while ensuring the needs of Aviation stakeholders—across Operations, Engineering, Finance, Flight Operations and Continuing Airworthiness—are understood and incorporated into the final solution.

You'll also play an important role in governance and risk management, preparing documentation for internal and external reviews, including board‐level reporting and gate approvals. With a continuous‐improvement mindset, you'll look for opportunities to enhance processes, strengthen delivery and contribute to a safe, high‐performance culture throughout the project.

Qualifications
* Australian Citizen with a Defence Security Clearance (or the ability to obtain).
* Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
* Extensive experience in infrastructure delivery, capital works, or construction project leadership, ideally in remote or regional settings.
* Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, including working with local councils, regulatory bodies, and Indigenous communities.
* Strong understanding of Australian building codes, environmental regulations, and planning approval processes.
* Proven ability to manage complex infrastructure projects from concept through to completion, including budget and risk oversight.
* Ability to travel to Horn Island and other regional locations as required.
* Experience in aviation infrastructure or hangar construction.
* Familiarity with Queensland Government planning and development frameworks.
Benefits
* Our agile working policies offer more choice and autonomy. For you, this could mean flexible start and finish times, a mix of office and home working, or even condensed working weeks.
* Our work life integration policy offers attractive leave entitlements including wellbeing leave, volunteer leave, paid parental leave, defence reservist leave, and we are proud to be a Work180 endorsed employer.
* Babcock's supportive and engaging environment, coupled with our capability framework, aims to advance your career with internal development programs, self‐led learning modules through LinkedIn Learning and access to study leave.

We welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and experience.
