The Position
Director Medical Services
This is a critical leadership role responsible for the Medical Services and Clinical Governance across the Central Highlands to meet organisational and community needs. Working closely with the General Manager and Executive Director, you will be an authority on medical services for rural sites and provide expert advice in resolving complex, clinical, medico‐legal, ethical, and operational challenges.
In addition to the clinical role of a General Practitioner or a Rural Generalist, as a medical leader you will promote a quality‐improvement culture as a core member of the Central Highlands management team. You will be involved in developing high‐performing teams capable of providing healthcare to consumers across a large and diverse geographical area.

The Central Highlands attract people from all walks of life and many remain to settle in the area. Its strong economy, expanding infrastructure projects and friendly, laid‐back lifestyle offer employment and security while allowing free time for families and recreation.
The Location
Emerald Hospital is located 300 km west of the Queensland coastline. The surrounding community has a population of approximately 28,000, with 15,000 residents in Emerald. Three multipurpose health services (MPHS) hospitals lie within 100 km, at Blackwater, Springsure and an indigenous community at Woorabinda. Emerald Hospital is a 36‐bed facility that has two operating theatres and approximately 160 staff delivering acute, community and primary care services. About 300 to 400 babies are born at the hospital each year.
Emerald Hospital has recently obtained accreditation for medical officer training with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Essential Criteria Mandatory qualification/s:
* MBBS or equivalent, eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Fellowship of either the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), or fellowship of another appropriate Australian specialist college.
* Enrollment and maintenance of an ongoing CPD program with the appropriate bodies.
Non‐mandatory qualifications/requirements:
* Advanced skills training would be looked upon favourably.
* AFRACMA or FRACMA would be looked upon favourably – there are opportunities to attain specialist medical administration training while in the role.
