The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Reef Authority) is a Commonwealth non-corporate entity, and a statutory agency established by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Marine Park Act), reporting to the Minister for the Environment and Water. Our objective is the long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community through the care and development of the Marine Park.

The Position
We are seeking an agile and highly skilled professional to manage the Reef Authority's International engagement and capacity building activities, and to work in partnership with key stakeholders to promote awareness of threats to coral reefs globally.
The position will also support Australia's leading role in the International Coral Reef Initiative and other forums and contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the Reef Authority.

Key Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of Reef Authority's international activities including leading the Reef Authority's contribution to international forums particularly the International Coral Reef Initiative; providing support to shape the strategic direction of the Reef Authority through international engagement, capacity building, and establishing and maintaining effective relationships; and co-ordinating the Reef Authority's attendance at international conferences and hosting approved international delegations.
* Exercise sound professional judgement in anticipating, managing and resolving problems relevant to the Reef Authority's international business role, including monitoring budgets and progress towards key performance indicators.
* Contribute to managing the Reef Authority's responsibilities for Commonwealth, National and World Heritage matters, including liaising with other government departments.
* Coordinate and prepare high quality advice and written material that is timely, practical, transparent and risk-based. Advice will cover complex matters including international and the Reef Authority's involvement with international bodies. Material could include ministerial correspondence and cables, briefs, reports, position statements, strategic policies and plans.
Essential requirements
* Demonstrated experience in and/or understanding of Australia's international policy and heritage management arrangements.
Desirable qualifications or equivalent experience
* Tertiary qualifications or equivalent relevant experience in a marine or environmental field.
* Experience in public sector administration with an environmental focus or equivalent industry experience.
* Experience of the machinery of government.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
The position requires a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance. Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
The successful candidate will be willing to provide identity documents and undergo an identity pre-employment check through a Document Verification Service.

* Conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999.
* Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) granting a security clearance at the required level.
* Evidence of citizenship status.
* Evidence of qualifications required of the role.
* Evidence of a completed national police-check with no risks identified by the Reef Authority.
