Our game changing Southern Cross Model brings a deeper, focused learning experience and our research is deeply connected to our regions, making a difference on a global scale. This is your chance to help us build something new and meaningful for our students, our communities and your career. To drive change, make a real impact, and thrive in a place as unique as you.

You can be good anywhere. Here, you can be great.

Your opportunity

Southern Cross University's Research Infrastructure, Operations and Technology (RIOT) team supports world‐class research through advanced facilities and specialist expertise. The Biomics analytical facility is home to a suite of highly specialised instrumentation, enabling cutting‐edge research across geochemistry, environmental science and human history.

We are seeking an Analytical Specialist to lead the operation, maintenance and development of this flagship facility. This is a hands‐on, technically sophisticated role centred on a unique suite of instruments, including Multi‐collector and Quadrupole ICP‐MS, Electron Spin Resonance and Laser Ablation systems. You will play a critical role in supporting high‐impact research, including innovative studies such as early human development and geochemical analysis, while also contributing to the future growth and potential commercialisation of the facility.

This role is ideal for a technically strong and curious specialist who enjoys working at the intersection of science, technology and collaboration. You'll support researchers and students, develop new analytical methods, and help shape how the facility evolves into the future.

You will make an impact by:

* Operating and maintaining advanced analytical instrumentation, ensuring high performance and reliability
* Delivering high quality sample analysis, method development and validation across diverse research and commercial projects
* Supporting and training researchers, including PhD students, in analytical techniques and instrumentation use
* Developing and improving laboratory processes, quality control systems and documentation
* Identifying opportunities to enhance capability, efficiency and potential commercial applications of the facility

What you will bring

You're a technically capable and solutions‐focused analytical specialist with hands‐on experience working with complex scientific instrumentation. You enjoy problem solving, take pride in maintaining high‐quality standards, and are confident supporting a wide range of users from experienced researchers to students.

You thrive in a collaborative research environment and are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful scientific outcomes while continuously improving systems, processes and capability.

To succeed in this role, you will also need:

* A postgraduate qualification in analytical chemistry, geochemistry or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
* Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation, ideally ICP‐MS or similar mass spectrometry systems
* Strong skills in sample preparation, analysis, method development and data quality control
* Ability to support and train researchers and students, with clear communication and documentation skills
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed laboratory records.
