About the Business Unit
Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum‐security prison that focuses on rehabilitation and houses up to 1,248 people in custody. It provides medical wards, a cultural centre, vocational training facilities and a holistic, multi‐disciplinary approach to individualised care that encourages reintegration into the community.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Barber to join our team. The Barber will provide haircuts to persons in our care, train and mentor prisoner workers, and support the delivery of training programs in partnership with our education provider.
Responsibilities
* Effectively manage all work areas to ensure safety and security for prisoners, staff and visitors, applying appropriate surveillance and interaction protocols.
* Provide haircuts, trims and styling services that meet customer preferences while adhering to organisational limits and industry standards.
* Deliver exceptional customer service in a welcoming, professional atmosphere.
* Mentor and coach prisoner barbers to develop professional skills, improve performance and confidence.
* Maintain a clean, organised and sanitised work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
* Relevant proven qualification and experience as a professional barber.
* Demonstrated experience in training, mentoring or teaching others.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to manage teams effectively in complex situations, providing clear direction, advice and support.
* Knowledge and experience within a correctional services environment (desirable).
