Career Opportunities: Senior Policy & Legislation Advisor *****) Requisition ID****-Posted -Geelong - 1 Malop Street 1 x ongoing position and 1 x fixed term position to 30 September **** Wadawurrung/Geelong based role (hybrid work from home - 3 days a week in office) About the opportunity The Senior Policy & Legislation Advisor is responsible for the review, analysis and development of policy and strategy in a range of contexts including strategic, economic, legislative, regulatory and operational.
The role formulates effective legislative and statutory solutions, provides authoritative policy advice to WorkSafe, and assess and responds to emerging trends and challenges in occupational health and safety and workers compensation.
The Senior Policy & Legislation Advisor will work across a broad range of subject matters, including occupational health and safety and workers compensation, and will work in a variety of settings including national, government and stakeholder forums.
Key accountabilities include: Developing and supporting the review and implementation of legislation and subordinate instruments administered by WorkSafe Victoria.
Providing expert strategic and timely advice to enable and support the development and implementation of legislative and regulatory reforms, statutory guidance, and non-regulatory policy options including assessment of the most appropriate policy tool to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Preparing drafting instructions, briefings, cabinet documents, discussion and consultation papers and reports as part of the legislative, parliamentary, stakeholder engagement and other policy processes.
Completing comprehensive reviews of a range of information products and forms that implement legislation administered by WorkSafe Victoria, including guidance materials, standard letters, forms and publicity materials.
Proactive identification and escalation of emerging trends, issues and risks in occupational health and safety and workers compensation legislation and policy including reviewing academic literature, case law, industry trends, research and activity in other jurisdictions overseas and keeping abreast of government, stakeholder and community views.
You are a confident and strategic thinker with a proven record in developing and advising on complex legal and policy issues within a government or regulatory environment.
You thrive on challenge, are comfortable managing competing priorities, and have a talent for translating complex information into clear, practical advice.
You will bring: Demonstrated knowledge of OHS and/or compensation law, or related legislative frameworks.
Strong understanding of legislative development and parliamentary processes and an understanding of regulatory design, statutory tools, and Commonwealth-State relations.
Proven ability to deliver authoritative advice on complex legal and policy matters under tight time constraints.
Exceptional stakeholder management, consultation and negotiation skills.
Advanced written communication skills with the ability to translate complex or technical issues for diverse audiences.
Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to identify trends, anticipate risks and develop effective responses.
Experience in leading strategic and/or legal policy projects within a government or regulatory setting.
Experience in building policy capability and mentoring others.
Qualifications A relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Economics, or a related discipline is required.
