Role Overview
Lead the smelter reliability engineering department, providing engineering advice on asset management and maintenance, setting standards, and driving reliability improvements.
Key Responsibilities
* Measure, monitor, and manage equipment health to maximize availability and reliability (MTBF and MTTR), including daily downtime reviews and month-end reporting.
* Use data-driven decisions to improve equipment performance and reduce unplanned cost.
* Manage statutory maintenance and work management of prescribed equipment.
* Optimize shutdowns by ensuring the right work is included and executed, with inspections to inform urgent and future work for defect elimination and reliability improvement.
* Conduct equipment criticality analysis and develop short-and long-term maintenance strategies.
* Oversee equipment condition monitoring and lubrication programs.
* Lead failure investigations for equipment downtime and unplanned cost.
* Lead defect and risk elimination programs and cost-saving initiatives.
* Develop maintenance and operational reliability culture, promote reliability-oriented operation and maintenance, and continuously improve reliability programs.
* Conduct equipment integrity and condition risk assessments, and perform maintainability and reliability studies.
* Drive digital and technology initiatives such as equipment health reports, downtime reporting, reliability dashboards, and predictive maintenance analytics.
* Optimize resource allocation and minimize cost and waste through continuous improvement.
* Create a positive team culture, mentor and coach staff to build competency, and ensure team competence for assigned tasks.
* Provide visible leadership and ensure compliance with processing policies, standards, and procedures for the reliability team.
* Lead safety across the reliability department, overseeing physical observations, compliance with safety standards, role-modelling of safety behaviours, and management of incidents and investigations.
Qualifications and Experience
* 7+ years of engineering and project delivery or maintenance engineering experience.
* Mechanical engineering degree.
* Previous leadership experience.
* Reliability engineering experience in mining fixed-plant maintenance.
* 8+ years of mining or heavy-industry experience.
* Demonstrated understanding of mineral processing systems and interrelationships, including maintenance systems (e.g., SAP).
* Strong communication skills at all levels.
* Experience supervising and developing large work teams to deliver business outcomes.
* Knowledge of budgeting processes.
* Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Knowledge of risk management, safety systems, and legislative requirements for mining.
* Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
