Occupation: Food Technology Assistant
Location: Laverton P-12 College, Western suburbs of Melbourne – Hobsons Bay
Position Reports To: Principal and Business Manager
Selection Criteria
* Capacity to undertake routine support tasks across a range of functions in one or more work areas within a school environment.
* Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support and/or attendant care to students where necessary.
* Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software, and kitchen equipment as relevant to the position.
* Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support, students and parents.
* A commitment to professional learning and growth.
Responsibilities
* Prepare food ingredients, equipment, trays, tea towels, oven mitts, dishcloths, and other required materials prior to the commencement of classes.
* Support Food Technology teachers and students by supplying required ingredients, utensils, equipment, and materials during classes.
* Assist with additional food preparation and catering requirements for school activities and events as required.
* Ensure all work areas, materials, and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, and ready‐to‐use condition.
* Use and maintain equipment and facilities in accordance with school procedures, manufacturer instructions, and occupational health and safety requirements.
* Undertake regular cleaning of kitchen facilities including stoves, benches, sinks, prep areas, dining areas, storerooms, and coolrooms.
* Clear away equipment and materials after use and ensure items are stored appropriately.
* Wash, dry, and maintain kitchen laundry items including tea towels, aprons, and dishcloths.
* Ensure adequate cleaning and hygiene supplies are available and notify relevant staff when stock requires replenishment.
* Follow correct food handling, hygiene, and safety procedures at all times.
* Assist with administrative tasks associated with ordering food and supplies.
* Collate staff orders, receive deliveries, check invoices or delivery dockets, and appropriately store food and supplies upon arrival.
* Monitor food storage areas to ensure cleanliness, organisation, and compliance with food safety standards.
* Clean and clear refrigerators and freezers as required.
* Inspect and clean cupboards, drawers, shelves, and storage areas.
* Conduct thorough cleaning of food storerooms, including sweeping and mopping floors.
* Check and clean stoves, ovens, and kitchen equipment.
* Ensure adequate measures are in place to minimise dust, insects, and pests.
* Assist with annual stocktake and end‐of‐year cleaning procedures.
* Participate in team meetings, professional learning, and relevant training as required.
* Work collaboratively with teaching and education support staff to support the effective operation of the Food Technology program.
* Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal or Business Manager, consistent with the classification and responsibilities of the position.
