Who We Are
Gladstone Central State School was established in 1861 as the first school in Gladstone. Our school now occupies a central position in the city, close to the central business district. Our school services a wide community comprising the city area, inner residential suburbs and the wider community. 42% of our current enrolments are drawn from outside our school catchment area. The relatively small student population in comparison to other local schools is often cited by parents as a reason for choosing to enrol their child at our school.

The Head of Department - Teaching and Learning will support student achievement through the implementation of impactful curriculum and pedagogical practices across the learning environment.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
* Set high standards for student and staff performance.
* Engage in lifelong learning and professional development.
* Build partnerships with students, parents, agencies, and community groups.
* Be future‑oriented and strategic.
* Understand legislation and policies impacting the school department, students and staff.
* Manage the human, financial, facilities and other school resources to achieve goals.
* Manage staff, timetabling, resources and school operations to enable effective teaching, learning and wellbeing practices across classes and supported programs.
Must‑Have Skills and Experience
* Current Queensland teacher registration and eligibility for leadership roles.
* Demonstrated success in instructional leadership and improving student outcomes.
* Strong knowledge of Science of Reading.
* Strong knowledge of inclusive education and differentiation strategies.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Capacity to lead change and foster a collaborative team culture.
Nice‑to‑Have Skills and Experience
* Strong understanding of Science of Learning.
* Strong understanding of the Numeracy P‑12 informing paper and associated research.
* Familiarity with digital tools including AI.
* Strong understanding of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and wellbeing frameworks.
