One of the major divisions within the firm is the Sterling Asset Management team. This team is recognised for being a leader in rail structures inspections and is responsible for conducting over 5,000 inspections annually to major rail and road infrastructure Australia-wide. During these inspections, our team assesses complex infrastructure defects, to develop and advise on the best practice management.
About the Role
Reporting to our Manager – Inspections, and operating within our experienced asset management team, the role of Inspector is to inspect civil infrastructure assets, including bridges, culverts, buildings, power poles etc, and assess their condition. The company's pipeline of work includes a challenging mix of structural renewal/design projects as well as complex engineering investigations including inspections, structural assessment, as well as load rating and modification/strengthening strategies.

The role of an Inspector is to conduct Level 2 inspections on civil infrastructure assets/structures who has values that reflect our own and will therefore be excited to –
* Play a crucial role in supporting the successful delivery of inspection projects,
* Assist to plan and safely carry out inspections of structural assets (e.g. bridges, culverts, wharves and jetties, retaining walls, gantries, etc.),
* Championing attention to detail, efficiency, and communication to accurately capture asset condition data which will then inform our Clients' maintenance and renewals programs,
* Rely on teamwork to make quality of work, risk management and safety your key focus,
* Seek to use innovation and shared knowledge to constantly seek improvement in our inspection processes,
* Embrace working in a diverse and dynamic organisation,
The project work involves inspection of civil-structural assets on Road and Rail transportation networks, and therefore the successful candidate will need to be able and willing to work away from Melbourne for extended periods of time, generally between 2 and 4 weeks at once, in Regional Victoria, NSW and QLD.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Complete Visual inspections of structural assets in a safe and timely manner.
* Accurately capture and convey information, such as inspection reports, defect and fault reporting, incident reporting, access requests and planning to the Project Manager.
* Mentor and provide technical advice to junior inspectors, graduate engineers and spotters,
* Undertake a site walk-through and safety audit for each asset to plan and conduct inspections safely,
* Report any safety issues, incidents or major asset safety risks,
* Ensure all input into asset inspection software is accurate and completed in a timely manner.
* Field and office-based data entry of inspection data
* Assisting in the preparation of SWMS and other safety documentation
* Managing subcontractors and access stakeholders on site,
* Providing input into technical reports
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* Experience inspecting bridge structures – preferred
* Railway experience – preferred
* VicRoads Prequalified Level 2 Inspector – ESSENTIAL
* Rail Industry Worker Card (RIW) (Sterling will provide full support – time and financial – for this to be obtained if not currently held)
* Accell Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure and Accell Certificate III in Rail Structures (Sterling will provide full support – time and financial – for this to be obtained if not currently held)
* Working-at-heights training (Sterling will provide support of time off and cost of training for this to be obtained if not currently held)
* EWP use training (Sterling will provide support of time off and cost of training for this to be obtained if not currently held)
* Ropes access training (Sterling will provide support of time off and cost of training for this to be obtained if not currently held)
