About the role
Curtin University is seeking an exceptional Principal Platforms Architect to drive the strategic design and evolution of our core technology platforms. This pivotal role provides expert architectural leadership across Curtin’s ServiceNow, Microsoft, and AWS environments, ensuring our digital ecosystem is robust, scalable, secure, and aligned with business needs.
As a senior leader within Digital & Technology Solutions, you will shape Curtin’s digital platform strategy, influence enterprise-wide solution design, and guide engineering teams to deliver world-class outcomes that support the University’s vision.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead and own the University’s core platform architecture and design standards.
- Provide high-level technical thought leadership and ensure best-practice solution delivery across DTS.
- Partner with IT leaders, business stakeholders, and vendors to develop future-focused, fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Oversee solution architecture practices, governance, reviews, and quality assurance.
- Guide and mentor architects and technical specialists, fostering a high-performing and cooperative culture.
- Co-design and support the Software Development Lifecycle and Solution Delivery Framework.
- Ensure architectures support security, resilience, performance, and cost optimisation.
- Ensure alignment between technical solutions and enterprise architectures.
- Build strong relationships across vendors, partners, and technical communities.
- Drive innovation and contribute to efficiency gains and strategic IT outcomes.
Selection Criteria:
You’re a seasoned architecture leader with deep expertise across cloud and enterprise platforms, known for your strategic thinking, excellent communication, and ability to influence at all levels.
You will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive senior-level ICT experience.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary ICT trends, emerging technologies, and architectural frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision and pragmatic delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop teams in complex environments.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and business analysis capability.
- Experience designing large-scale, complex solutions and governing architecture practices.
- Ability to manage political sensitivities, competing priorities, and executive-level relationships.
- Strong leadership capability, with a coaching and collaborative mindset.
- Able to operate in complex environments with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
Desirable:
- TOGAF 9+ certification
- AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
- Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect certification
- Experience working in higher education or large complex organisations
