About The Opportunity
NSW Health Pathology is seeking a dedicated Senior Hospital Scientist to lead the Blood Transfusion section within the Haematology Laboratory at the John Hunter Hospital. The laboratory serves a wide community with specialties including trauma, obstetrics, cardiology, transplant, haematology and oncology for all ages. You will be part of a dynamic team with a positive culture who use the RITE values to serve our community.
What You'll Be Doing
Responsibility for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the Blood Transfusion laboratory
Oversee quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services
Human resource, business and resource management
Ensure compliance with accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems within the Blood Transfusion Laboratory
Demonstrate managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting
Supervise Pathology Laboratory Information Systems and e-based Quality Management Systems
Maintain high-level knowledge of operating and maintaining analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory
Adhere to legislation, policies and requirements that impact the Blood Transfusion laboratory environment, including work health and safety and privacy
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
Customer-focused approach with well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills, including report writing and statistical evaluation of scientific data
Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems and supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the Blood Transfusion laboratory environment
