About the role

The Department of Intensive Care is seeking a Specialist to join our dynamic and highly motivated team, dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care to both the local community and patients referred from across New South Wales and beyond.

At St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, we strive to become the leading specialist intensive care unit in Australia for heart and lung disease, with a focus on cardio‐pulmonary transplantation, mechanical cardiac support and extracorporeal life support. We are constantly at the cutting edge of intensive care, through research, innovation, and collaboration. We endeavour to recruit and retain the highest quality staff, because it is through their skill and dedication that we as a department can continue to grow and develop.

As well as slotting seamlessly into the complex clinical duties of the role and actively engaging in governance, education and research, the successful candidate will be expected to take the lead on the delivery of a newly established Critical Care Outreach Service. Applicants will be required to participate in on‐call rotas, including critical care, extracorporeal support (eg. ECMO) and patient retrieval.

Selection Criteria
* Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) of Australia and New Zealand, or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist's State Award, and a Medicare provider number.
* Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Intensive Care Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position: possess experience in the management of critically ill and post‐operative patients, including cardiopulmonary transplant, mechanical cardiac assist devices and extracorporeal life support.
* Significant experience in initiation and longitudinal management of extracorporeal life support.
* Demonstrated commitment to multidisciplinary education, with experience and training in high‐fidelity simulation and its delivery in a critical care setting.
* Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes.
* Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multi‐disciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience.
* Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia.
