Ongoing full‑time role

Located at Dubbo, Broken Hill or Moama (other NPWS locations within Western NSW by negotiation)

Do you want your work to make a difference for NSW?

Working to protect the state’s environment and heritage.

Play an important role in the delivery of high‑profile asset and infrastructure projects for the West Branch of National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).

About the role As a Senior Project Officer within the Asset & Infrastructure team you will coordinate geographically dispersed projects and be responsible for supporting planning approvals, stakeholder engagement, procurement, contract supervision and the delivery of on‑ground capital works within required deadlines and quality standards. This role offers an ideal opportunity to manage a wide range of project responsibilities:

Preparing scopes of work and programs for the renewal or repair of visitor or operational infrastructure buildings and structures and heritage assets.

Managing all stages of project design from concept development through to final documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, heritage guidelines and stakeholder requirements.

Preparing Mini Minor Works (MMW), Minor Works (MW21) and NSW Government GC21 General Conditions of Contract (GC21) tender documents.

Creating work orders and purchase requisitions, goods receipting, work order partial completion and capital project close.

Overseeing construction works, ensuring compliance with environmental and WHS requirements.

Preparing content for progress reports and stakeholder communication.

The position will involve occasional travel (fully supported) to remote locations and towns within the West Branch, an incredibly diverse branch that encompasses approximately 50% of the state, stretching from the sub‑Alpine slopes and tablelands to the East, riverine country, South and semi‑arid expanses of the West.

About you Your passion for the community and environment coupled with robust attention to detail and proficiency in project management will be key to your success. To be successful you will have:

Experience working with government agencies, project managers, engineering disciplines and varied construction contractors.

Experience providing high‑level specialist advice and information to stakeholders on emerging project issues, supporting project development and delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy and environmental objectives.

The ability to lead project teams on procurement and contract management, including contractor supervision of remote works projects, which will require regular travel throughout the region.

It would be highly regarded if you have experience delivering projects within a natural resource setting, including working knowledge of GIS systems, data management and analysis skills.

Essential requirements

Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience.

Project‑management skills and experience, with an understanding of contemporary best practice in procurement, tendering and contract preparation, managing project teams, consultants and contractors, and applying environmental safety and risk‑management policies and systems.

Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and reviewing strategic plans, policies and programs, and in providing strategic and operational advice and recommendations to senior management.
