About the Role
We are seeking Youth Support Workers to provide individualized support for children and young people residing in Kirinari OOHC homes. Our young people have experienced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect and may have a mental health, physical or psychosocial disability. We look for resilient and committed team members who can support them to build skills and strengths within a therapeutic model of care to provide safety and empowerment.
The overall responsibilities include:
* Supporting young people to develop independent living skills.
* Helping them achieve their goals.
* Encouraging engagement in local communities (school, community groups, etc.).
* Providing daily care and support, including assistance with household duties.
* Transporting young people to and from appointments.
* Facilitating connections to family and culture.
* Working alongside other professionals (e.g., Behaviour Support Practitioners) to deliver multidisciplinary care.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Commitment to the safety of children, young people, and people with disabilities.
* Understanding of strength‐based trauma‐informed practice (or willingness to learn).
* Qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare or related areas (Cert IV) – highly regarded.
* Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma – highly regarded.
* Willingness to work a flexible roster, including weekends, evenings and sleepovers.
* Ability to obtain the NDIS Workers Screening Check, NSW Working with Children Check, and be registered on the NSW Residential Care Workers Register.
* Completion of a National Criminal History Check (paid by Kirinari).
* Physical ability to be active and engage with young people in games/sport.
* Computer literacy and ability to learn various software/programs.
* Current Australian Driver's License.
* Right to live and work in Australia.
