Position Purpose:

Are you an experienced risk, safety, or compliance professional looking to take the next step in your leadership career? Devonport City Council is seeking a proactive and motivated Risk, Safety & Compliance Coordinator to lead our dedicated team and strengthen our organisational approach to safety, compliance, and risk management.

About the Role

The Risk, Safety & Compliance Coordinator provides leadership, direction and support to the Risk, Safety & Compliance Team to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services across Council. A key focus of the role is strengthening our customer service culture, driving continuous improvement, and helping the organisation meet its statutory and regulatory obligations.

You will work collaboratively across all departments, supporting leaders and staff to understand and manage risk, embed safe work practices, and maintain compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for:

- Developing, promoting, and implementing Risk Management strategies, frameworks and systems to minimise Council’s exposure to risk.
- Providing leadership and guidance to the Risk, Safety & Compliance Team to ensure high-quality, customer-focused service delivery.
- Supporting the management of key risk domains, including Work Health and Safety, public liability, and business continuity.
- Ensuring Council complies with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging compliance requirements.
- Promoting a positive safety culture by partnering with managers and staff to embed safe working practices and continuous improvement.
- Leading incident reporting and investigation processes, ensuring timely follow-up and effective corrective actions.
- Coordinating audits, reviews and reporting, including risk assessments, WHS inspections and compliance reviews.
- Building strong internal stakeholder relationships, providing expert advice, training and support across all service areas.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Demonstrated experience in risk management, compliance, workplace health and safety, or a related field.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, guide and develop a small team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
- Sound understanding of relevant legislation, standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. WHS, public liability, risk frameworks).
- Proven ability to analyse issues, develop practical solutions, and influence positive outcomes.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Qualifications in Risk Management, WHS, Compliance, or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
