ABOUT THE ROLE
This is not just a teaching job. It is a calling.
CAPS Kurrawang is a small, close-knit Christian school serving approximately 85 predominantly Aboriginal (First Nations) students from Kindy to Year 6. The school runs four mixed-year classes and is proud of its near 80% attendance rate — exceptional by any measure in this space.
We are seeking a Year 3/4 classroom teacher to join our passionate, cohesive team. You will be supported by an Education Assistant (EA) and work within a school culture built on co-ownership, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to every child in the building.
* Classroom Teaching — Plan and deliver engaging Year 3/4 programmes aligned with the WA Curriculum, adapting to the diverse learning needs of your students.
* Student Wellbeing — Build genuine, caring relationships with students and their families — you will often be at the coalface of their world, not just their education.
* Collaborative Practice — Work as part of a tight-knit team where co-ownership of the school environment is the norm.
* Cultural Engagement — Embrace and integrate First Nations perspectives into your teaching with humility and a genuine willingness to learn from this community.
* Community Connection — Actively engage with students' families and the broader Kurrawang community as a trusted and visible presence.
* Faith Integration — Support and uphold the school's Christian ethos, participating in staff devotions, prayer, and the school's Christ-centred approach to education.
ABOUT YOU Ideal Candidate
* Practising Christian with a genuine faith commitment and a servant's heart. This is essential.
* Registered (or eligible to register) with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).
* Primary-qualified with a strong understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum.
* Culturally humble — prior experience with Aboriginal communities is valued, but a genuine willingness to learn from this specific community matters more.
* A 'boots in' team player who thrives in a collaborative, everyone-gets-involved environment.
* Emotionally resilient and mission-minded — you understand that education here goes far beyond the curriculum.
* Committed to staying — we are looking for someone who will invest in seeing a cohort grow through the school. A minimum three-year commitment is preferred; five years is ideal.
* Strong communicator with the ability to build trusted relationships with students, families, staff, and community.
* The successful applicant will be subject to the Federal Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
CAPS (Christian Aboriginal Parent Directed School) Kurrawang has been a proud member of the CAPS Board since 1980. Grounded in a biblical worldview, the school offers a disciplined yet nurturing approach to education, with a deep commitment to the spiritual, academic, cultural, and social development of every child.
WHY JOIN CAPS KURRAWANG
* Be part of a school where your faith and your classroom are the same thing — every single day.
* Work in one of Australia's most uniquely rewarding educational environments, with strong leadership, mentoring, and a genuine support network.
* The school subsidises accommodation, this is subject to availability and is negotiable.
* Try before you commit — for strong candidates, CAPS will cover travel and accommodation for a 2-3 day visit to experience the school and community firsthand.
