Principal Electrical Engineer
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Building Services team. In this role, you will lead and deliver electrical engineering studies, designs, and specifications across a diverse range of infrastructure and building projects. You will work with minimal supervision, provide high-level technical consultancy, guide junior engineers, and manage projects and proposals as a true "seller/doer."
This position involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams and requires strong design expertise across electrical services for new construction, upgrades, and modifications including LV/HV power distribution, lighting, security systems, ICT infrastructure, and renewable energy integration.
Key Responsibilities
* Technical Leadership & Design
o Lead, contribute to, and perform electrical engineering studies and detailed designs for buildings and infrastructure projects.
o Deliver electrical services designs including internal/external lighting, LV distribution and reticulation, passive ICT infrastructure, security systems, backup power systems, and solar PV integration.
o Prepare, verify, and self-check electrical design calculations using both manual and software assisted methods.
o Guide designers and drafters in the preparation of drawings; review and approve documentation.
o Prepare and review reports, technical specifications, and project documentation.
* Project & Stakeholder Management
o Lead project teams to deliver major electrical work packages on large multidisciplinary projects.
o Manage small to medium multidisciplinary building services projects end-to-end.
o Liaise confidently with clients, statutory authorities, and external consultants to negotiate critical technical issues.
o Support proposal preparation, project budgeting, and delivery to quality, cost, and time requirements.
o Build and maintain a network of client contacts; participate in business development and marketing activities.
* Team Mentoring & Collaboration
o Provide technical assistance, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
o Work collaboratively with mechanical, structural, hydraulic, civil, and other building services teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Qualifications & Skills
* Required
o Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
o Chartered Engineer / CPEng / RPEQ registration, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
o 10+ years' experience as an electrical engineer within the built environment or infrastructure sectors.
o Demonstrated practical and theoretical expertise in electrical engineering.
o Proven experience in commercial or consulting environments.
o Strong skills in concept and detailed design across a broad range of electrical systems.
o Ability to manage and deliver complex projects with multidisciplinary teams.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write technical content fluently.
* Highly Regarded
o Experience leading large Defence DSC electrical projects.
o Exposure to business development, proposal writing, and marketing activities.
o Strong background in project and design management, including budget management.
