NTGK is seeking an experienced and motivated Head Greenkeeper to join our team, supporting turf management operations at a prominent Golf Course in Darwin. This is a hands‐on supervisory role, providing day‐to‐day direction, quality assurance, and technical expertise across all course surfaces. The role involves leading and coordinating daily greenkeeping activities, managing irrigation systems, applying fertilizers and pesticides, conducting soil and turf testing, operating turf management equipment, maintaining records, training staff, and ensuring compliance with WHS and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities of this position
* Lead and coordinate daily greenkeeping activities, providing direction to crew members on turf maintenance tasks
* Assist in preparing and presenting course surfaces to consistent standards
* Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, with capability to diagnose faults and carry out basic repairs
* Apply fertilisers, pesticides, and soil amendments in accordance with integrated pest management (IPM) principles and relevant NT regulations
* Conduct soil and turf testing and contribute data to maintenance planning
* Operate and carry out routine maintenance on turf management equipment
* Maintain accurate records of chemical use, water consumption, and maintenance activities in line with WHS and environmental compliance requirements
* Support induction and on‐the‐job training for junior greenkeeping staff
* Identify and report maintenance issues, hazards, and plant defects to the Head Greenkeeper
* Assist with course setup for competitions, events, and presentations
Essentials
* Certificate III in Turf Management or equivalent vocational qualification (AHC31916 or higher preferred)
* Minimum three (3) years' experience in a greenkeeping role at an 18-hole or multi-course facility
* Demonstrated experience managing turf in tropical or subtropical climates, including wet season turf recovery
* Current NT (or transferable) Chemical Accreditation or willingness to obtain prior to commencement
* Current Australian driver's licence (minimum C class); ride‐on machinery ticket an advantage
* Practical knowledge of irrigation scheduling and system operation; IRRINET or comparable system experience advantageous
* Demonstrated ability to lead small work crews and prioritise tasks under operational pressure
* Sound understanding of WHS obligations and safe work practices in a greenkeeping environment
* Reliable and flexible: the role requires early starts and occasional weekend coverage for competitions and events
Desirable
* Certificate IV in Horticulture or Golf Course Management
* Membership or affiliations with ASTMA (Australian Sports Turf Managers Association) (desirable)
* Experience with warm‐season grasses under high‐humidity growing conditions (desirable)
* Familiarity with GPS‐guided spraying, soil moisture monitoring, or precision turf technology (desirable)
