The Barista is responsible for the preparation and service of coffee and other beverages, basic food handling, customer service, and maintaining a clean and efficient cafe environment. The role requires strong technical coffee skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospitality setting.
This position requires 1–2 years of relevant experience as a barista or in a similar cafe/hospitality role. A relevant qualification in hospitality or food and beverage service will be considered highly regarded.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Preparing and serving espresso-based beverages including cappuccinos, lattes, flat whites, and other specialty coffee drinks to a high standard
* Operating commercial espresso machines, grinders, and related coffee equipment
* Demonstrating beginner to intermediate-level knowledge and understanding of various types of coffee beans and associated coffee-making processes.
* Receiving and processing customer orders accurately, including special requests
* Operating point-of-sale (POS) systems and handling transactions in accordance with company procedures
* Maintaining consistency in beverage quality in line our standards
* Explaining the quality and characteristics of coffee beans used in the outlet, including their source/origin, processing methods, flavor profile, aroma, and taste notes.
* Assisting with basic food preparation and presentation as required
* Monitoring stock levels, replenishing supplies, and supporting inventory control processes
* Maintaining cleanliness of the cafe, equipment, and service areas in compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
* Providing professional and friendly customer service at all times
* Assisting customers with coffee recommendations by communicating bean characteristics and beverage options clearly and confidently
* Working collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
Selection Criteria / Requirements
* Minimum 1–2 years' experience as a Barista or in a similar cafe/hospitality role
* Demonstrated ability to prepare espresso-based coffee to a professional standard
* Must have a keen interest in coffee culture, brewing techniques, and product knowledge to provide an enhanced customer experience.
* Experience working in a fast-paced food and beverage environment
* Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
* Ability to follow workplace procedures, hygiene standards, and safety regulations
* Knowledge of a range of coffee preparation methods (e.g., espresso, batch brew, cold brew) and non-coffee beverages
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required
