Senior Payroll Officer
to join our friendly and professional People & Culture team based at our APAC Head Office in Northgate, Brisbane.
Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, APAC, this key appointment is a sole Payroll role responsible for overseeing our Outsourced Payroll Provider to ensure accurate and timely fortnightly payments to our 280 employees throughout Australia and New Zealand, as well as a small team in Asia to ensure the provision of a high quality comprehensive payroll service ensuring that salaries and expenses are paid within our regulatory framework.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and provide payroll maintenance to the outsourced payroll provider for Australia (270 employees), New Zealand (6 employees) and Singapore (4 employees)
Review and approve outsourced payroll provider’s pay runs for accuracy and compliance.
Validate payroll inputs including timesheets, leave, allowances, and deductions.
Ensure correct application of awards and employment contracts.
Assist in the calculation of annual salary review and bonus payment processes
Coordinate and complete EOM payroll reconciliations.
Ensure all payroll-related journals are posted accurately and on time.
Produce EOM reporting for Finance, including variance analysis and accrual reports.
Oversee preparation of income statements and support year-end financial reporting and audits.
Coordinate payment of Workers Compensation Premiums.
Compliance & Reporting
Monitor compliance with statutory obligations including PAYG, Superannuation Guarantee, and Fair Work requirements.
Oversee Single Touch Payroll (STP) submissions and ensure timely lodgement.
Review payroll tax calculations and ensure accurate reporting across relevant jurisdictions.
Audit & Reconciliation
Conduct regular audits of payroll data and processes.
Reconcile payroll reports with general ledger and financial statements.
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies or anomalies.
Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary contact between the organisation and the outsourced payroll provider.
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external auditors to ensure smooth payroll operations.
Provide payroll-related advice and support to employees and management.
Process Improvement & Risk Management
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and controls.
Maintain documentation of payroll procedures and ensure business continuity plans are in place.
Skills and experience
Minimum
5 years’ payroll experience
in
medium to large organisations, with a strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes.
Well established multi-state generalist payroll experience with a solid grounding in payroll tax reporting requirements
An excellent grasp of Excel with the ability to manage large data sets to support Salary Review and Bonus annual adjustments
Proven ability to manage outsourced payroll relationships and ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation.
A Customer Service ethos with an adaptable and responsive approach to changes in the environment
Excellent attention to detail with well-developed discretion and confidentiality as well as team orientation that supports timelines being met.
