The purpose of the Strategy, Planning and Climate Change Division is to partner with our Traditional Owners, community and stakeholders to enable the city and organisation's future to be imagined and realised.
The Planning and Building branch exists to shape and protect the identity of Melbourne. Our vision is to be proactive and considered in facilitating sustainable city growth while maintaining what is unique to Melbourne.
The objective of this position is to support the Building Control Group in protecting the health, safety and amenity of building occupants and the public within the City of Melbourne and ensure compliance with building legislation.
This will be achieved by assisting or undertaking building surveying and inspection services; responding to building complaints or enquiries, undertaking building inspections and investigations, plan checking and audit services in relation to existing buildings, places of public entertainment and buildings under construction. The position will also utilise the enforcement tools contained within building legislation. The position will require the incumbent to deal with the full spectrum of buildings types within the municipality, ranging from domestic to complex multistorey commercial and historic buildings and also small to large scale events.
**What you will bring...(selection criteria)**

- Tertiary qualifications in building surveying, building inspections, building science or building construction.
- Minimum 12 Months experience in a professional private or government-based building surveying / building inspection office, or
- Other practical building industry experience that is recognised by branch management as being of equivalent benefit to that listed above.
- Knowledge in building legislative standards and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Developed computer skills.
- High customer service skills; knowledge of Council policies, procedures and local laws.
