Advanced Trainee Geriatric Medicine

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH), a tertiary hospital in southern Tasmania serving 300,000 people, is seeking an Advanced Trainee in Geriatric Medicine.


Role Overview

The trainee will work as part of a 9 FTE registrar team and will undertake day‑to‑day management of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute, sub‑acute, orthogeriatric and behavioural dementia care. The role also includes after‑hours emergency cover and supports the education of undergraduates, allied health, nursing and postgraduates.


Responsibilities

* Manage private and public inpatients and outpatients across the hospital, including acute and sub‑acute beds.
* Provide after‑hours emergency cover at the hospital as required.
* Participate in consultative services and shared‑care orthogeriatrics model.
* Support research activities and maintain current clinical knowledge.
* Collaborate with junior doctors, interns, resident medical officers and consultants.


Qualifications & Preferences

* Registered or provisional registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Passing written and practical RACP exams or equivalent for the relevant College.
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration where applicable.
* Experience or training in general medicine, rehabilitation medicine, palliative care or emergency medicine is advantageous.


Employment Details

Fixed‑term, full‑time (possible part‑time) position for 12–24 months. Working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time). Rounds and training will be tailored to meet educational objectives. Award: Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
