At headspace Gympie, we show up for young people when it matters most. We provide a safe, welcoming space where young people aged 12–25 can be heard, supported and empowered to navigate life's challenges.
About The Role
As one of the first points of contact at headspace, you'll play a vital role in shaping a young person's experience from the moment they reach out.
This is more than an intake role. It's an opportunity to build trust, assess needs, provide meaningful interventions and coordinate care in a way that is responsive, respectful and tailored to each young person.
You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary team; including clinicians, GPs, allied health practitioners and community partners, to deliver integrated, holistic care across mental health, physical health, AOD, and vocational supports.
What You'll Be Doing
* Creating a safe, youth‐friendly environment where they feel seen, heard and understood
* Conducting thoughtful, holistic bio‐psycho‐social assessments
* Undertaking risk assessments, including responding to suicide and safety concerns with care and confidence
* Providing brief and focused psychological interventions for mild to moderate presentations
* Supporting young people with alcohol and other drug awareness and harm reduction strategies
* Developing care plans and coordinating referrals to ensure wraparound support
* Delivering (and co‐facilitating) group programs and psychoeducational sessions
* Maintaining accurate, high‐quality clinical documentation

Desired Skills And Experience
What You'll Need
* A relevant tertiary qualification (Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing or equivalent counselling discipline)
* Registration (or working towards) with the appropriate professional body, or eligibility aligned with ACA Level 3 (or above)
* Understanding of youth mental health, AOD issues and trauma‐informed practice
* Knowledge of (or a willingness to learn) the local service system
* Current driver's licence, WWCC and ability to meet required screening checks

Selection Criteria
* Knowledge and understanding of mental health, evidence‐based interventions and clinical practice as well as demonstrated excellence in the practical application of such, in the areas of youth mental health and alcohol and drug use.
* Demonstrated ability to undertake initial screening activities and a comprehensive bio‐psycho‐social assessment to determine care needs and provide appropriate follow up support.
* Experience in the delivery of therapeutic interventions, counselling services and treatment planning.
* The ability to conduct interventions with young people which include the direct use of a range of focused Psychological Strategies.
* Highly developed written/verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage with young people, advocate on their behalf and establish and maintain effective relationships with workers, young people, carers, and stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver individual or group‐based skills training activities to assist young people's psychosocial functioning (e.g. life skills, anger management, problem solving, conflict resolution, etc.).
* Demonstrated ability to apply risk management strategies within a clinical context.
