Job Title: Aboriginal Perinatal Mental Health Specialist

The Westmead Mother and Baby Unit is a new specialist inpatient mental health facility designed to provide assessment and treatment for women with severe mental health problems in pregnancy and up until a child is one year old.

This role plays a key part in the planning and implementation of any admission, treatment, case management, referral, discharge and follow up for Aboriginal people utilising the Mother Baby Unit.

The successful applicant will be working as part of a multidisciplinary service, providing holistic and best practice care that is parent and infant centred, family and carer inclusive, and culturally sensitive.


Key Responsibilities:

* Assist in the planning and implementation of admissions, treatment, case management, referrals, discharges and follow-up for Aboriginal people accessing mental health services.
* Provide holistic and best practice care that is parent and infant-centred, family and carer-inclusive, and culturally sensitive.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care and support services.


Requirements:

- Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Nursing/ Psychology/ Social Work/ Occupational Therapy or Health Science (Mental Health - Djirruwang Graduate).

- Registration: Full Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/ Psychologist/ Occupational Therapist or for Social Workers eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.

- Evidence of Diversity Claim: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

- Demonstrated understanding of the impact of mental illness in the perinatal timeframe.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community and knowledge of the Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing, including an understanding of Aboriginal family structure and Aboriginal culture and wisdom.
