Selection Criteria
Applicants are requested to present a written response to the key selection criteria below:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of library procedures and practices and the ability to contribute to library programs.
- Demonstrated high level skills and experience in ICT, including Oliver library software, MS Office suite, Google Suite and ClickView.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, in line with Ballarat High School core values.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow work procedures and directions.
Role
The Library Technician will work as a member of the Library team at Ballarat High School and will be responsible for assisting the Librarians in the delivery of information services to students and staff.
This role requires an employee who has had sufficient experience and/or training to enable them to carry out their assigned duties under limited supervision, using established procedures, practices and initial instruction. They will demonstrate and apply a broad range of skills/knowledge in the area of Information Services.
Problems are solved by reference to established practices and procedures, and the application of initiative, discretion, or judgement in applying them, or by reference to the Librarians.
As an ES staff member, the range of duties may be expanded in the future in accordance with the ES Range 1 Level 2 General Duties.
Responsibilities
Library Operations
- Assist with maintenance and care of the collection and library
- Maintain authority records
- Assist with the annual stocktake
- Assist with the management of overdue book processes
- Maintain student and staff borrower records
- Assist with creating displays relating to current units of inquiry, special events and the promotion of resources
- Monitor stationery supplies
- Process recent library resources and maintain the library collection e.g. mending, covering and re‑shelving
- Weed resources in accordance with library policy
- Maintain school newspaper archives
Circulation Desk Duties
- Undertake duties at the circulation desk including the operation of the Oliver circulation system
- Provide a welcoming first point of contact for staff and students
- Shelve books, shelf check and tidy library resources, maintaining general cleanliness of library collections
- Assist librarians with active supervision of students in the library with discretion and judgement
- Receive and deal with initial reference and information queries
- Provide advice to students and staff with respect to literature and resources they might enjoy
- Provide incidental training and assistance to students and staff in order for them to access both print and general resources
- Assist staff and students in the use of online software such as ClickView
General Administration
- Support staff and students with photocopying and scanning documents, and ensure adequate supplies are available at all times
- Provide laminating and binding assistance to staff and students, manage the supply of materials and maintain financial records of usage as necessary
- Collect and distribute library mail and parcels from the school office
- Perform a range of administrative and support duties as required
Human Resources
- Assist in the identification of own training needs
- Participate in a process of Annual Review
